Church House, London, UK
Funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), INVOLVE is a national advisory group that supports patient & public involvement & engagement (PPI/E) in public health and social care research.
The event was designed to be a celebration of successful PPI/E across the NIHR and beyond. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet a community of PPI/E professionals who share our enthusiasm for, and commitment to, meaningful citizen involvement in research and innovation. At its heart the event was about collaboration – sharing best practice, pooling of resources and learning from others about how we can overcome key challenges and navigate common barriers.
Session themes included the importance of regional and national networks consisting of PPI representatives working alongside PPI/E professionals and organisations, ensuring a coordinated approach to local and national activity and avoiding the all too common duplication of effort. It was also refreshing to hear about the various innovative approaches to patient and public involvement, and the introduction of digital mechanisms to support PPI/E programmes.
