The Alere PlGF test and the Roche sFlt-1/PlGF ratio test may provide a new way of diagnosing pre-eclampsia in pregnant women who have signs and symptoms of the condition. The Alere PlGF test measures a biomarker called placental growth factor (PlGF) and the Roche sFlt-1/PlGF ratio test measures PlGF and soluble FMS-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1) in blood samples. It is claimed that these tests may provide earlier and more accurate diagnosis and therefore improved management of this potentially serious condition.
