Neon EEG for monitoring neonatal seizures

February 2016
Technology Description:

The Neon EEG is used on newborn babies to monitor for brain seizures which are a cause of ill health and sometimes death, particularly in premature babies. Seizures are caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain and the Neon EEG monitors this brain activity. It does it using sensors that stick to the scalp and can be used on all babies, not just those who have had seizures. This means that brain seizures can be detected earlier and therefore reduce the chance of ill health. The company that makes Neon EEG says the device is much easier and quicker to fit than current methods and does not require a specialist to apply it.
