Since March 2020, the NIHR Innovation Observatory’s Medical Devices team (NIHRIO MDx) has been applying advanced horizon scanning methodologies and tools to compile a diagnostic landscape of all SARS-CoV-2 tests (commercialised/ in development) for the diagnosis of COVID-19. Our comprehensive global dataset (including molecular and immunological based diagnostics) provides detailed information on the test technique, development stage, country of development sample type and regulatory status. The intelligence collated from publicly available sources is continually analysed in order to identify meaningful trends in technological innovations and regulation across geographical regions.
Our intelligence is provided monthly to national stakeholders (NHSE/I, MHRA, DHSC) and national oversight groups, and continues to assist stakeholders with assessing priorities and identifying tests with the potential to alleviate testing pressures.
We cannot guarantee the completeness of this dataset, but are working actively to maintain and update its contents.
