6-08 December 2017
Bristol Royal Marriot Hotel, Bristol, UK
In early December 2017 we made our way down to Bristol for the much anticipated annual Engage conference, organised by the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE).
The NCCPE was originally established in 2008 to ‘create a culture within UK higher education where public engagement is formalised and embedded as a valued and recognised activity for staff at all levels, and for students’. Now, nine years later, the Engage conference has become a firm favourite on the calendar of PPI/E professionals from higher education institutions, the voluntary and community sector and NIHR infrastructure organisations.
Following the NIHR INVOLVE conference in November, it was great to see the important theme of partnership and collaboration being the focus of yet another event. Sessions on co-production in health research, global collaborations and creating public engagement networks were all valuable opportunities to learn from best practice case studies. We were also able to share the innovative PPI/E approaches we at the NIHR Innovation Observatory are developing and implementing; the national expansion of the VOICE citizen involvement network and our unique IMAGINE series.
