Serenity System® to treat tinnitus

Devices

Ear, Nose and Throat

October 2015

Serenity® is designed to treat tinnitus, which is a noise or ringing in the ears. Currently, there is no treatment that works for everyone. Serenity® involves having a small implant placed in the patient’s chest. For short periods, this implant stimulates a nerve in the neck, at the same time as the patient is listening to sounds being played through headphones. This combination ‘tells’ the brain to ‘pay attention’ to the sound being played and not the tinnitus sound. It is claimed that over time the impact of the tinnitus sounds decrease.
