Repurposing of therapeutics for SARS-CoV-2 an overview of current evidence

Post Type: Report
Technology Category: Therapeutics
Year: 2021

There is a need for effective and accessible treatments for SARS-CoV-2 and repurposing drugs already approved for other indications may provide a rapid alternative to de-novo drug development. This report provides a rapid evidence overview (evidence map and narrative synthesis) of the drug repurposing preclinical research landscape (in vivo, in vitro and in silico studies) to identify the most plausible treatment candidates for clinical trials. Thirty-seven therapeutic agents with potentially promising effects on SARS-CoV-2 were identified. However, further well-designed preclinical and clinical research is needed to establish their efficacy.
